The Best Downtown Frederick Breweries:

Steinhardt Brewery

Located in the Union Knitting Mills building, this establishment has become a popular stop for craft brew lovers. Family owned and operated, they create their craft beer onsite with a simple goal in mind: to create the best artist beer possible.

They have a commitment to preparing beer with only the highest quality barley, hops, yeast, and other premium ingredients sourced from all over the world. The result? A wonderfully smooth, well-balanced, and delectable beer using their own deep well water.

Idiom Brewing

Idiom Brewing is another local, craft brewery located on East Patrick St. in downtown, Frederick. The brewery was founded in the spring of 2014 by two friends, both of whom have a passion for great craft beer.

The owners got their first wind of brewing beer over 10 years ago when visiting some friends who had moved to a small town outside Portland, Oregon.

Portland has a reputation for craft beer, being in integral part of life.

This beginning stove-top batch turned into creating hundreds of brews that have included a wide array of flavors, styles and experimenting.

They have something for everyone, whether you’re a hophead searching for insanely juicy IPAs; one of the daring few who want to try berry-flavored, sour, or complex beers; or simply looking for a place to catch up with friends and family.

Monocacy Brewing

This downtown Frederick Brewery began with a passion for excellent beer and the desire to brew high-quality craft beer on their own terms. Their brewing procedure always starts with high-quality ingredients, which frequently include locally grown and malted brewing grains, according to Brewmaster Tom Flores, who is assisted by a talented staff of brewers.

With over 50 years of combined brewing knowledge, a number of years of formal education, internationally recognized certifications, and their eagerness for adventure and experimentation…Idiom uses their creative imagination and enthusiasm to direct their technical skills in order to guarantee that every batch they produce is special.

The result? A delicious and diverse beer portfolio that appeals to all kinds of beer drinkers.

In 2012, they moved the Ebert’s Ice Cream factory in Downtown Frederick to establish their tasting room. It’s the ideal place for a weekday happy hour or a weekend party because it has a shaded outside area to drink your favorite beer outdoors, as well as a calendar full of exciting events and local food trucks.

We recommend getting a flight of their rotating seasonal brews. Growlers are also available for take – home and Monocacy also offers tours of their brewery!

Rockwell Brewery

Paul Tinney and Matt Thrasher were home brewing buddies long before Rockwell Brewing opened its doors in March 2017. Rockwell Brewery was founded after the duo was inspired by the beers they were producing and the burgeoning craft brewery industry in Frederick.

With a background in chemistry, a passion for cooking, and an influence from the growing number of new ingredients, Scott McKernon, the Head Brewer, began brewing at home back in the early 1990s due to a scarcity of really good beer.

Scott’s passion and background have resulted in wide variety of beer styles and flavor profiles.

There’s something for everyone on their “beer wall,” including stouts, porters, reds, IPAs, blondes, and barrel-aged brews.

Olde Mother

Olde Mother is another craft brewery in downtown Frederick, started by two friends – Nick and Keith.

With a passion for brewing, they set out to establish Olde Mother Brewing with the same simplicity in mind, producing excellent beer and forming friendships while also encouraging a community to join them on their journey to launch a craft beer business.

With all this in mind, the recent surge in craft beer tourists to Frederick and their factory has necessitated the construction of a 10-barrel brew house…increasing its operation and product offerings to canned goods.

Expect a variety of typical craft beers when visiting their brewery, but keep in mind that there will be several unique variations and taste profiles.

Keith & Nick love experimenting…meaning there is something new and unique to look forward to on subsequent visits!
